Who We Are

Not by might and not by power
But by spirit alone!

(Learn More: Our History)

Southern California is rich with Jewish tradition, from the South Robertson neighborhood in West Los Angeles, north to the San Fernando Valley, and south to Orange County and San Diego.

But the High Desert? …A slightly different story.

The Jewish community here is, shall we say, somewhat smaller… and is served by two Jewish congregations, both Reform. Bamidbar Shel Ma’alah is here in Victorville. The other congregation is the Antelope Valley’s Beth Knesset Bamidbar in Lancaster, about 60 miles west of Victorville.

We’re not big; our community consists of about 45 families. We believe that this is a selling point! Our services are intimate and warm, and are led by dedicated volunteer lay leaders, except once a month when our student rabbi is in attendance.

We have three big annual events: our Community Passover Seder, and our annual Purim and Chanukkah parties.

Our Mission

  • To provide a place for Jews to worship in the High Desert
  • To serve as a Jewish community in Southern California’s Victor Valley
  • To act as a “good neighbor,” in support of our own families as well as the community at-large
